Notes on the Edwards nEXT-400D Turbomolecular Vacuum Pumps
The Edwards nEXT-400D hybrid bearing compound turbomolecular vacuum pump, operates on 24 to 48 VDC, this is the 80 watt version and comes with a 100 watt TIC controller (no instrument). It has CF Conflat 8 inch inlet flange, ISO KF-25 exhaust foreline flange and has a pump to controller signal cable attached (1 meter). This pump has a reduced start up time to full speed, with a pumping speed of 400 liters per second (l/s) of nitrogen. A basic pump system would require a Edwards nEXT400D pump, a TAG or TIC controller, either an air or water cooling accessory and a suitable backing roughing pump. Roughing pump not included with this package. The complete specifications and application brochure in PDF format can be downloaded below.

The Edwards nEXT400D hybrid bearing compound turbo pumps are available with either ISO-160 or Conflat 8 inch inlet flanges and have a pumping speed of 400 l/s of nitrogen. The nEXT pumps combine Edward's proven bearing technology (oil lubricated ceramic lower bearing with dry permanent magnetic upper bearing), an improved rotor design with a new molecular drag stage to deliver improved pumping speed and compression ratios, and true user serviceability. They feature 24 to 48 VDC sensor less motors with a built in drive that is fully compatible with the range of TAG, 100W TIC or 200W TIC controllers. The pumps are available pre-set for either 80W or 160W maximum power, the 80W pumps can be used with the Edwards 100W TIC controllers for low power applications but will require a longer ramp time to full operating speed.

User Friendly Maintenance Technology
The new Edwards nEXT technology have enabled the pumps to be serviced in the field. An interim oil lubrication change can be performed, where access allows, in-situ, typically in less than 5 minutes with the minimum of specialist tooling. A bearing and oil lubrication service, with minimum disassembly can be performed in less than 10 minutes using basic workshop tools and an Edwards tool kit. The nEXT pumps will advise the user when a service is due and what level of intervention is required. The request for service is by a simple flashing LED sequence on the pumps, and by serial communication notification.

Notes on the TIC Turbo Controller (No instrument or pressure gauge connections)
The Edwards TIC turbo pump controller is a compact turbo controller with a large clear graphical display, an intuitive user interface, and serial communications providing full remote control and data logging functions via a new Windows based PC program. The controller automatically recognizes and supports one 24 VDC turbomolecular pump from the EXT and nEXT turbo pump range. The Edwards TIC turbo controller provides output power to directly support the turbo cooling fan & vent valve along with mains for the backing pumps (up to the nXDS20i dry scroll and RV12 rotary vane vacuum pumps) which may be controlled via an optional relay box. There are two different TIC Controller output power variants available, 100 or 200 Watt which determines the ramp speed of the turbo pump. In addition, the TIC Controller 200 Watt models have the ability to power a 24 VDC backing pump, such as Edwards XDD1 (diaphragm pump) or nXDS (scroll pump) through a 15 pin D-sub connector. These Edwards TIC turbo pump controllers are designed to operated EXT 75dx, nEXT 240, 300 and 400 turbo pumps, have Edwards part number D397-11-000, but do not include pressure gauge control function support or connections (no instrument control).
