Ideal Vacuum Products is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Product Development team! What You’ll Do
Concepts & 3D Design
- Accept scoped project assignments to solve new design problems or iterate and improve on existing assemblies
- Concept models, early prototypes, industry research, materials, production processes
- Create and maintain robust SolidWorks models for diverse structural, mechanical, mechatronic, and vacuum assemblies.
Documentation & Release
- Produce clear production drawings, exploded views, BOMs, and assembly instructions.
- Manage design workflow and metadata through PDM and plan production of your designs.
- Document design decisions and project progress.
Prototype, Test & Iterate
- Collaborate with machinists, fabricators, and assemblers to build and refine prototypes.
- Support functional testing; capture data, findings, and corrective actions.
- Drive root-cause analysis and implement design updates to hit performance and cost targets.
Manufacturing & Cross-Functional Support
- Translate product requirements into manufacturable designs with realistic tolerances and processes.
- Assist sourcing with vendor drawings/specs; review quotes for feasibility and cost drivers.
- Contribute to assembly manuals, datasheets, and product marketing materials

What You’ll Bring
- Education: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related).
- Experience: 3+ years mechanical design, from CAD to released drawings.
- CAD: SolidWorks & SolidWorks PDM; familiarity with FEA or CFD is a plus.
- Manufacturing: Working knowledge of CNC machining, sheet metal, weldments, and finishing; practical DFM/DFA.
- Drafting: Proficiency with GD&T (ASME Y14.5), tolerance stacks, and clean drawing practices.
- Collaboration: Comfortable working with machinists, fabricators, assemblers, and test engineers.
- Nice to Have: Vacuum systems experience.
How You’ll Grow
- Within 90 days: release a drawing package and support a prototype through build/test.
- Within 6 months: own a subassembly from concept to production release.
