Join a builder’s environment where your designs power real R&D. Ideal Vacuum Products engineers own the full lifecycle—requirements, 3D design,
documentation, prototyping, test, and release—on scientifically technical products used by universities and national labs across North America.
If you enjoy moving concepts off the screen and into the lab, collaborating with machinists and assemblers, and optimizing for manufacturability,
you’ll thrive here.
What You’ll Do
Concept & 3D Design
- Create robust SolidWorks models and configurations for electro-mechanical and vacuum-compatible assemblies.
- Run quick tolerance checks and basic FEA (deflection/thermal) to de-risk early concepts.
- Apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and design-for-assembly principles for reliable builds.
Documentation & Release
- Produce clear production drawings, exploded views, BOMs, and assembly instructions.
- Manage revisions through PDM, participate in ECOs, and maintain part/assembly metadata.
- Specify materials and finishes appropriate for vacuum service and clean assembly.
Prototype, Test & Iterate
- Collaborate with machinists, fabricators, and assemblers to build and refine prototypes.
- Support functional testing; capture data, findings, and corrective actions.
- Drive root-cause analysis and implement design updates to hit performance and cost targets.
Manufacturing & Cross-Functional Support
- Translate product requirements into manufacturable designs with realistic tolerances and processes.
- Assist sourcing with vendor drawings/specs; review quotes for feasibility and cost drivers.
- Contribute across project phases—from definition to deployment—meeting timelines and milestones.

What You’ll Bring
- Education: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related).
- Experience: 3+ years in mechanical design with ownership from CAD to released drawings.
- Tools: SolidWorks (parts/assemblies/drawings) and PDM; familiarity with basic FEA a plus.
- Manufacturing: Working knowledge of CNC machining, sheet metal, weldments, and finishing; practical DFM/DFA.
- Documentation: Proficiency with GD&T (ASME Y14.5), tolerance stacks, and clean drawing practices.
- Collaboration: Comfortable working with machinists, fabricators, assemblers, and test engineers.
- Nice to Have: Vacuum hardware experience (KF/ISO/CF), materials for vacuum service, and clean assembly practices.
How You’ll Grow
- Within 90 days: release a drawing package and support a prototype through build/test.
- Within 6 months: own a subassembly from concept to production release.
Pay & Benefits
- Competitive and negotiable salary.
- Health Insurance, Life Insurance, FSA.
- Short & Long Term Disability.
- 401(k) retirement package with company contribution.
- Dental & Vision Insurance.
- Flexible work schedule.
- Profit sharing bonuses.
